Acquisition #1: Avicii

Description

Collect songwriter royalties from a catalog that earns royalties in over 50 countries. The diversity in earnings is thanks to the dance hit “The Nights” by award- winning Swedish DJ and producer Avicii. In the last 12 months, this catalog generated $34,978.

“The Nights” is the driver of this catalog, contributing 91% of the last 12 months of earnings. Released in 2014, it has charted in over 20 countries, received Platinum certification in four, and Gold certification in three. Today, “The Nights” is one of Avicii's best sellers on iTunes, has over 308 million Spotify spins, and boasts 313 million views on YouTube.

Avicii’s career began in 2009. His international breakthrough came in 2011 with the release of the song “Levels” which launched him into the mainstream. Avicii still is actively releasing music today. His latest EP was released in August of 2017, and in February of this year, he appeared as a co-writer on the new song “Ghost” by Human. While these newer works are not included in this sale, the release of new music is important as it can help boost an artist's back catalog because the release of new music draws discovery among new fans who are listening to these artists for the first time.

Another notable name included in the catalog is Mary J. Blige. Her song “Take Me As I Am” is the second highest earner, with royalties increasing 69% in the last four quarters over the previous. The song was released in 2005 on the Grammy-winning album, The Breakthrough. “Take Me As I am” reached No. 3 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and is a BMI award-winning song.

His global presence is illustrated in the earnings, with royalties coming from more than 50 countries.
